Rights and Responsiblities of posting student Photos on the Internet

Mary Alice Sessler
I feel that educators need to be responsible when posting student photos on the Internet.  They need to make certain that they have permission from parents or guardians before posting them.  Non-custodial parents, predators, pedophiles, or others who may have bad intentions may "zero in" on a child's photo, obtain information about the child, and proceed to do harm to the child.  Teachers have the right to share classroom projects, classroom successes, and learning situations on the Internet, yet they must be responsible if a student's photo is posted there.
