As a teenager or young adult, it is hard to understand the complexity of the digital world. I think knowing and understanding the repercussions of unsafe online activity is hard to understand. Safety is a huge concern for many reasons and having the inability to take words or pictures back is one of the biggest issues facing our youth. I also believe that many cultural differences plague our digital space in a negative way, which also impCts safety. Free speech and right to privacy do not mean that you can do whatever you want and it is acceptable.
I fell what you are saying is really spot on with middle school students. They think off the cuff and do not realize the responsibility or consequences for places they go or things they say. We need to help them to understand the big picture and what the risks are
I completely agree that on the internet students feel like they can say or do whatever they want. The Freedom of Speech debate does not mean that you can say whatever you want without facing some sort of repercussions.
