SPLS Dee Clark

Deanna Clark
I think the there are two areas this system can really assist students. First, students who are not achieving as traditional students for whatever reason could benefit from this system. They could use the system for credit recovery or just to complete the basic requirements for graduation as a non-traditional student. Second, high achieving students who are done with the basics and do not have access to a local college setting could find course work they are interested in.

An addition that I think would be beneficial is offering AP courses. Having AP courses for all Iowa kids would benefit students that are living in districts that currently do not have AP options.

I think huge challenges for this kind of system will be making technology accessible to all Iowa kids and keeping up with the kids’ interests, constructing classes that are interesting and meaningful.

Hi Dee!

I really appreciate your post as you have shared some great points!  To be honest, I had not thought of tradition vs non-traditional students and the idea of using this as a method of credit recovery is ingenious! I also think as you do that it's a wonderful opportunity to use the SPLS as an AP class/platform, especially in the smaller schools around the state that aren't able to offer AP courses for their students.

Thanks for sharing Dee!
