Social Media

Laura
I have many social media sites for personal and business use.  I use Facebook for personal use and do not friend anyone that I am currently working with. I let them know this ahead of time and tell them this is the way for me to stay connected to family and friends back home (as I live far from there).  I use LinkedIn for career purposes, so anything on there is only about education and fitness. I use Instagram infrequently. Twitter is used for a PLN for me. I rarely Tweet anything other than retweets. I find many useful resources for my professional learning here.  Due to the ways in which I use these sites, I check my security frequently. I always think about what I am posting and how others might perceive it.

I agree with a lot of what you say in using the platforms that you use.  I also use many social media platforms for networking and in my work.  Facebook is really for my family and friends and I don't use it for my work.  I agree being careful about personal data is important to monitor on a regular basis.

I use social media mostly for the clubs and sports any my school.  I also use Twitter to have some sort of live interaction during school events to keep others posted.  I am not a big fan of using social media, but if done correctly, it does a great job of keeping people in the loop and as a way of supporting those things close to you.

Restricting the people you come in contact with based on family or work seems like a good way to make the social media sites that you use more secure. It also seems like a good way to organize the information so that you can find relevant communications more easily.
