Special Education and limited access

Marsha Morgan
My special education high students do not have access to technology 24/7 as usual students may have. Cell phones, laptop computers and tablets are not readily given to them for use at home or at school.  We have carts of laptop computers for individual use and a classroom ipad for extra practice and learning.  With the laptops, I incorporate activities for my math class, as often as I can.  Using gmail for parent questions and discussions is done frequently, but we are not encouraged to email students.  However, penpals has become a new writing medium which has taught students how to use gmail and to make buddies with other students in the school.  When we get good at using the technology we will branch out to other students in other cities, but for now we continue to enjoy laughing with our 2nd graders by send and receiving math jokes.
