Tracy Petersen PLP

Tracy Petersen
My goal was genreally to include students in the development and implementation of their own learning so that they take more responsibility and own the goals. I also want to explore less traditional ways of providing services that meets student needs and maximizes my limited time with them and lets them use the skills that we work on in the gen ed classroom.
I am looking at outcomes to include: 1. Increase my overall knowledge of Personal Learning Pathways so that I can share the information with colleagues.
2. Explore personal learning plans and examples to identify key elements
3. To learn more about a flexible environment and begin to identify enviromental variables and their impact.

For resources I have been looking through the Beginning Level of Learning Profiles, Learner Pathways, and Enviroments. I was very interested in the chart of differentiated/personalized/individualized. This organized the information in a way that was easy for me to compare and contrast. I also appreciated the article on personalized learning plans (Next Gen Tools: Personalized Learning Plans and Learner Profiles. (n.d.). Retrieved January 12, 2017, from https://library.educause.edu/resources/2016/1/next-gen-tools-personalized-learning-plans-and-learner-profiles). It gave some examples that really piqued my interest and made me think about what I could do.
These resources are providing me with the starting framework to build a frame that I can then fill in with my own specific details.
Modality wise, I prefer reading the articles to the videos, and I like having the graphs, charts, and examples.

As I consider artifacts, I would like to generate a template for a personalized learning plan. I looked at the example from Caliber in the resource and I liked the idea of a template, though the one in the example didn't meet my needs. I want to identify key elements to personalization and include those on the template and then use it for at least one student who has an IEP this spring.

When I was reviewing the "Caliber" template, I felt like I liked the idea of the template, but didn't love what it theirs contained. What types of things are you thinking should be included in the template? Will you make it more specific and detailed? How often will you work with students to review their learning plan and update it?

Here are a few links to some other sample templates:

I typically have the demographic information for student and I have the data and information that is needed to write an IEP goal but I would like to include more of their own interests and thoughts about their speech goal. I work with preschool to 4th graders so I want to keep it age appropriate. I am thinking a section for interests, likes, dislikes, and preferences. I would want a spot where they tell why they think they need speech. A spot for them to tell what they hope to have happen in speech (their goal) "When I am done with speech I want to be able to..." I update IEPs monthly and I don't usually have students as part of that process but I would like to include them and ask how they think we should measure their progress. I would like to incorporate some pictures for the preschoolers but would like to include them in the process also. I think I can use the Vermont.gov site to help me create the template, thanks for that resource.
