Using Gmail in the middle school classroom

Stephanie Strine
I've been away from the classroom for 18 years, but I'm returning this fall.  Technology has improved education in so many ways since I left teaching; I was still using an overhead projector in the year 2000!  I am enjoying getting to know Gmail.  I had no idea that it can do so much more than my Outlook program.  When I return to the classroom, I especially look forward to creating groups so that I can communicate with students and parents.  I used to try sending letters home to alert parents to upcoming units and projects, but this will make communication so much easier.

As a foreign language teacher, I would also love to utilize the automatic translation tool to allow my students to communicate with pen pals in other countries.
