digital citizenship rights and responsibilities

Zachary Day
What user rights do you feel should be part of the norms in this digital world?
Obviously, the right to free speech is one protected by our Constitution, and should not be infringed upon in any manner.  In addition, the right to privacy is a rather important one to include as well.  Digital privacy is key in the world on online sales, consumer and personal information should not be put at risk.
What user responsibilities do you feel should be expressed in this digital world?
With every right, there comes responsibilities that go with them.  In the area of free speech, one is free to say whatever you want, but there are consequences for saying certain things.  Hate speech and defamation cross the line, and digital posters should be aware that their words have consequences, intended or not.  Intonation and meaning can be misconstrued easily in a digital setting, so people need to be aware that their words could be interpreted in a manner that was not the intent. In the area of privacy, people need to protect themselves by keeping all passwords private, and being aware of “phishing”  scams that try to pry personal information from unsuspecting digital users.
