gmail in the classroom

Mark E
I can see gmail as a very flexible tool for communicating tasks/assignments to students, fielding questions about tasks form students, and encouraging student cooperative learning via chat, as well as direct gmail contact.
Separating parent and student contacts into groups would be a very useful tool.  Overall assignments, deadlines for sub-tasks, class progress, etc., could be communicated to parents only via a group contact--very economical use of time--and general guidelines for the class as a whole through a student contact group.
