google hangout

Emily
I've seen teachers use google mail and google hangout to chat live with students about assignments and giving feedback when the student was too anxious to be in a large group setting or had other mental health or behavior issues preventing the from being in a general education setting.  The technology still gave them access to the gen ed setting/curriculum/instruction even when they couldn't physically be there.

As a sub, I have heard of teachers using Google chat to facilitate an important lesson when they couldn't be in the classroom. I think this is a wonderful use of that tool as a way for teachers to also stay connected with a classroom when they can't be physically present. I have also experienced working in classrooms where the children are stressed by missing a teacher who has to be on extended leave and replaced with a series of substitutes. I think it would be very comforting for the kids to have the teacher touch base from time to time just so they retain a little sense of continuity while their teacher is gone.

That is a great way, if able, when absent to get important info to students in real time.  Next best thing to being there.  I understand how difficult how hard it is as a sub to get everything correct and explained well.  This would be a great asset to all involved!

Google hangout would be an excellent tool to collect feedback from students after our annual spring career fair. Area employers come to our building and conduct live interviews with students. For that matter, I can also collect feedback from the area employers on their experiences at our building during the career fair.
