twitter

I have set up my twitter account and I am not sure how to set the privacy settings to what I need.  I have made my account private.  Does that mean that no one can find me?  I tried to have someone find me and they couldn't.  I want to be able to be seen by my class and their parents but no others to protect children's privacy.  Is that a possibility?  

Right now I am following AEA and I am looking for good subject specific tweets to follow for math, writing, and science.  

I am totally new to all of this.
