My students and I have discussed the fact that scholarship committees, college admissions staffs, and human resource staffs often check the online postings of applicants. In spring 2017, Harvard rescinded the acceptance for at least 10 incoming freshmen due to chatroom posts, according to many national news sources (long known to be reliable).
My school blocks Facebook on its school-issued computers. Smartphones have changed that. I don't allow students to use their cell phones during class.
