Art Concepts and Terminology- Kelsey Goede

What was new learning for you?
I learned a lot of new things related to art terminology. One thing that I did not know before was the difference between positive and negative space, I didn't even know there were two types of spaces. I find it very interesting that an object itself and the area around it have two different names and definitions. Something else that was new information for me was what tertiary colors are. Before reading the section over color I did not know that colors such as yellow-orange had a specific name, I just thought they were regular colors.

What was a review?
There were a couple things that were review for me. One thing that was a review for me was texture and what it meant. In my classroom I try to find projects that allow students to experiment with the different types of texture and how texture can be a visual thing, not just something you can feel. Another thing that was a review for me were the primary colors. Before I started teaching fourth grade I was a preschool teacher and we did a lot of work that revolved around the three primary colors.

How can you apply these concepts?
Going into the new school year I have a goal of incorporating more art into my core classes, knowing this terminology will help me better understand how to incorporate art into my lessons. One thing I am really looking forward to trying is using interactive notebooks for math and literacy, this will involve using several art concepts such as lines, color and shape.
