What was new? That line was basically a man-made thing! I never thought of it that way!
What was review? Being a band teacher for 30 years, the visual and performing arts overlap completely. Line, color, texture, repetition, variety, contrast, etc. it's all the components of improvisation, as well. I'm just looking at it with a different perspective.
How can I apply this to my current teaching? I'm now teaching Pre-K through 5th grade at a Lutheran Church School and choir, handbells, pre-schoolers at my church. Balancing a choir, giving direction to a musical line, warming up a melody, using shapes in my conducting patterns to visually lead my singers in the manner of which to interpret a section of music, etc., is all part of the visual aspect of the arts that pertains to the performance of music.
