Art Concepts and Terminology

Gary Goins
What was new learning for you?

One area that stands out for me that was new learning is the correct word formations of what vertical, horizontal, and curved lines mean. I do not remember learning about those types of lines in that way before.

What was a review?

The color wheel and concepts of it were all review for me. I still refer to my knowledge of the color wheel when thinking about mixing colors.

How can you apply these concepts to a content area you currently teach?

I can utilize these key terms and vocabulary in the correct way when I use these art terminology terms with my students no matter the subject area. I can do more cross curricular connections.

Hello Gary,
I think you and I have similar levels of knowledge in regards to understanding the basic terminologies in art. I too noted that I had a basic understanding of  color and lines. However, there was some more in depth information in both of those areas that I had not learned. I too think I can utilize this information in a variety of subjects, I think this information could most easily be used in a math class. I am a special education teacher in the language arts department, incorporating this information there seems a little more tricky, but I think it would be worth it if it motivated some students who are typically more driven by art to try to do their work.
