Arts Concepts and Terminology

Mattie Spain
There was a lot that was new for me. I did not know many of the terms. Some I knew, but not in the context of visual arts, so it was interesting to think about the differences.
There were some terms that I have heard throughout my training as a teacher at an arts integration school, but I was not sure of the meaning as I heard them and used them. Some terms that were a complete review were color, shape, space and texture. These are all terms that we use almost every day in the arts integration setting.
As I continue my work with my second grade students, I can be more specific in the terms that I am using to fully enrich their arts experience. Whenever we chose visual arts as a strategy for learning, I can be sure that the terms used are fully explained so that students fully understand and can show that in their work.

I truly agree with your thoughts. I think it is important for us to give our students the right information and build their Art Basics Foundation even at a younger grade level such as 2nd grade. If we teach art basics correctly it will definitely benefit all students in the long run.
