Standard 6- : Convey meaning through the presentation of artistic work
2nd grade- Analyze how art exhibited inside and outside of schools (such as in museums, galleries, virtual spaces, and other venues) contributes to communities.
Social studies and art
Discuss the word community- What is a community? Show the picture and use the VTS strategy. (Students should be looking at the picture and finding ways the picture represents a community to help come up with a definition of community.)
a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common.
Students then will think about their community and how they could represent their community in a drawing.
Closure: Students share their drawing and explain why it represents their community.
