Last year was my first year at a Catholic School. My students each have their own devices, and it is customary for them to be able to play games on their devices during rainy day recesses. While supervising, I allowed the students to perform a cute flash mob scene on a musical.ly app. The student had assured me that her app. was set on private, with just a few friends from the classroom and her family who were able to see the performance. The brief performance was broadcasted to classmates and parents called the principal to report a violation of a school privacy rule. I learned that I had violated a privacy rule that disallowed students to post noneducational videos online. I was never given a handbook, and was directed to a general handbook for schools in the Arch Diocese, but their broad policies did not apply to the situation. Ultimately, my students and I were informed of the rule, and not given negative consequences. My advice is to error on the safe side when questioning whether an activity is appropriate or not.
