I am not a social media fanatic. I use some to retrieve photos of thing I am interested in related to history. We were shown a book titled Philmont. I love pictures related to the old west and thought the pioneer reference was fitting. I was involved in one drive at Warm Springs. Such warm feelings.
<br/><br/>The social media post reminded me of the previous video of how a predator engages in "luring". Small steps but so relentless, I suppose like any addiction. Develope the similarities of your lives, make normal problems seem like mountains. Make them seem permanent and believe that an unknown someone will make it all go away, "Just trust Me!"
<br/><br/>The FBI site and Netsmartz hit home.
<br/><br/>I attempted to download a timer through our filters and I got the timer just like the other coaches had. I found that I had even more! My timer took over my district computer. I disconnected from the network and removed a battery to stop the typing going on. Days later our techies advised me never to to that site again as it was in eastern Europe attempting to gain access to our facility. I had not paid attention to the url close enough.
<br/><br/>I just went through my settings on Meta. I do not use it regularly but have in the last year since the passing of many long time friends and many relatives, begun to open posts from my personally known relatives. Several will not be around to visit with. I can only click on the open button in an email as I have no log in or account. The account icon Meta shows is one I first attemped to use in 1997.
<br/><br/>Meta trolls in an attempt to lure me in by wanting to send me a one click log in and not allowing me to see posts from my cousin or brother if I do not accept their policy. I have missed many posts but will not re engage.
<br/><br/>I get sucked in with some comic book or strip posts and want to repost. Now if I get to see a post there is no repost button.
<br/><br/>I have more examples of luring and theft that happened to some friends or relatives over the years.
<br/><br/>I will advocate that each of us never click on a link in an email suggesting it is a bank or the IRS or other government agency. Call them direct with the number you normally use. Know that anyone asking for financial information should already have that information and if you get a call that grandma is in jail of a hospital and you are not to hang up, it is a big red flag telling you to hang up and phone a friend such as the hospital or the police. Just as with any contact that wants or tells you not to tell anyone, immediately take a deep breath and talk to your trusted adult be it a school counselor/administrator/resource officer , or even a parent. Anything on the internet is not private and has eternal life.

While completing this assignment, I checked my Facebook page to ensure that my settings were all set to private. This is something I do several times a year to make sure my posts are kept safe. I also do not friend people I do not personally know. In the past when our daughter was living with us, we would sit down and go over her friends list and how she knows the person on her Facebook page as well as her cell phone. Our daughter and I have also taught my husband who just got Facebook a year ago that keeping his posts and his Facebook page private are important as well.

I checked out my facebook account. The kids need to make sure that their account is private so that only their "friends" can see your posts. If it is public, that means ANYONE can see your postings.

I explored facebook - Im not a big user but i was surprised that some of my settings were "public". I also like the fact that you could "supervise" your child's use and check in on what they have been searching or who they chat with. We need to make sure kids are checking their settings instead of assuming like i did.

I limit my use of social media and do not interact with students through social media. I did notice that the facebook default settings seem to be to allow everyone to see all posts and pictures. I don't use tictok , snapchat, or other social media.

New security settings to where even if your profile is private your photos can still be public. Different setting. Huge issue with fake accounts on Facebook and being locked out of other accounts. Very difficult to report because you have to find the page. If you don't know the page exists how do you report?

I explored facebook. When looking at settings see what other's can see. Set your profile so only those who you know and are friends with can see what you post. Make sure you are blocking everything from pictures posted to what is written on your timeline. It is also a good idea to set up your privacy settings so that when somebody tags you in a post or photo you must approve it before it is posted on your facebook. Lastly, to check your facebook settings click where it allows you to view your profile as a non-friend to get a good idea on how your profile looks to people not on your friend list.

I do not personally have any social networking sites. After discussing this topic with a relative who does have Instagram, it became aware to me how much the world can see if you let them. One simple picture posted can share so much about a person, intentionally or unintentionally, and most of what I was seeing was from adults. A young adult/child may not have the critical thinking skills developed yet to understand this or understand what protections they need to put in place for themselves to stay safe.

Facebook has many issues on the privacy side. Many thing that are public within your info that needs to be made private separately. They do have a nice feature that you can see what your profile looks like to the public.

On Facebook, you can put way too much information about yourself in the profile. It would be very easy for someone to steal an identity with the info in a profile. Keep as much of that info private as possible.

I went into my Facebook account and looked at my settings on my account. FB has a very user friendly way to look at how each thing they offer you can easily be set up to your preferences. It's called the Privacy Check-up. The first thing I checked was my profile and who can see what I have listed. I opted for "only me" for things like my DOB, Marital Status, Employer, etc. Beyond that you can select who actually sees your posts and stories. I have mine selected to Friends Except.....there are a couple people that I have as friends for purposes such as youth coaching contacts, but that doesn't mean I want them to see all my information out there. It's just a way to stay up to date on when they post tournaments, etc. You can also choose to Block certain people so that they can' even find you on the FB app.
<br/>I choose to have MY LOCATION set to off and for your overall FB log in, you can set up so you can be alerted when someone logs in or have a secondary layer of authentication when logging in to ensure that it's you.

I do not use much of social media. I do have Facebook. From my experience and looking into others it appears that when you create a new account, the default setting is to make it available for anyone to see. You will need to restrict access to make your account more private. I choose to rarely post and not share anything that would give away personal information.

I used my Facebook page. I think users need to be aware of the "friends," "friends of friends," and "public" settings. I want only the people I friend to see my information and pictures. I only add friends that I actually know in person. Not a cousin of a coworker ot anything like that. My privacy setting is set to private and that only friends can view my information. Again, I only want those I actually know accessing any information or photos. I also do not answer any of the personal questions that are added to the profile.

The social media site that I explored was that of Twitter or what is now referred to as X. The site can have a ton of information that is relevant and up to the minute. However, I would stress to my students or the younger generation that they need to be aware of the information that is being posted, that it may be false information. X is doing a better job with fact checking information and discrediting information if it is wrong. Some of the other sites that I saw referenced were Instagram, Facebook, or Snapchat which is all common sites that I know my students are using.

I looked at Facebook. I don’t really use Facebook very much anymore so I was pleasantly surprised to see they had new tools to review privacy settings which were easy to use. The last time I checked my privacy settings on Facebook it was a complete mess and very confusing, probably on purpose. I have always kept my Facebook and other social media very private and all the settings were the way I wanted them so I did not make any changes.

The social media site that I use mostly is Facebook. I went in and checked the various settings and I actually didn't realize all the various ways people could find my profile. So I actually changed some of my setting and I think it is very important that people are aware of how easy it can be for someone to get a hold of their information. I think, like one of the videos said, we tend to just assume that the site or whatever it may be, is fully protecting us without us doing our part and making sure those protections are set up.
<br/>I know that the schools will use different apps to communicate with parents and I think its important that these apps are carefully monitored not just from outside sources, but also from those who are using it. For example if the school uses an app to share various things, the people who have permission to access that, don't take the information shared and share it with someone who is outside the group.

34. What social networking site did you explore and what settings in that site should users be aware? Explore other participants thoughts to see if any of them apply to any social networking sites you or your students may be using.
<br/><br/>I checked my facebook site. Often defaults on facebook is public, others can post and tag, etc. I have mine pretty locked down. Friends can see my posts. I have review tag (picture or post) before it goes on my wall. I did this because a family member would post not flattering pictures of family events. I at least then would get some say on what was shown on my feed. I even remove my tag, not just not allow on my wall.
<br/><br/>Schools use Facebook among other means to communicate information and sometimes departments have their own. It is important to keep it locked down on what people can post to it, maybe even keeping up on comments. People online can quickly turn negative so having privacy is important. It is also important to have social media, because that is a lot of where people get information about their school, etc. It is an easy and efficient way to reach people. Making sure the facebook is maintaining the image it wants to portray is important.

"What social networking site did you explore and what settings in that site should users be aware?"
<br/><br/>The only site I use that could be considered social networking is my Xbox account. Within the privacy settings, there are many options for content you can view of others, content others can view of yours, and communication preferences. Each can be set to "everyone", "friends", or "block". By default, all settings are set to "everyone".

I reviewed privacy settings on my Facebook account. I have my account fairly locked down. You can't see where I live or my relationship status. Only friends can see my post. People can only find my profile on Facebook, not on google. I have a number of people blocked. This was a good chance to review the account.

I am not much of a user of social networks but I do have a Facebook page. I think it is absurd for someone to brag regarding how many 'friends' they have online. I explored my Facebook site. I also searched the Facebook sites of some of my other friends. I learned that my profile is very private. Some of my post that I have shared publicly do not put myself or any of my children in danger. I know the dangers of putting personal information on the internet many years ago. When you are looking at your Facebook privacy settings there are many different options you can choose to make sure your information isn't available to strangers. You can also view who follows you. By doing this i discovered there were many people I didn't know following my account. I since blocked those individuals from viewing my information. I also took a look at my snapchat and made sure my location was disabled and no personal information is advertised.

I use Facebook and I'm aware of the privacy settings and I use strict settings. As a school teacher, I feel you should be careful about what you put out there and who you let see it. Students, parents, and even staff are allowed to see your posts if your privacy setting allow them to. There have been 3 times since I've been on Facebook that by happenstance I seen a photo I posted, downloaded to someone else's phone or even used on a website for someone else's purpose.
<br/>Privacy settings you should check:
<br/>Who can see your posts? Are your posts private or public? Is your information such as address, phone, number, and email addresses visible? Should I let people tag me? Does my profile show up in a google search?

I currently have a social network account. This account does have privacy settings that change from time to time on its own. One example that does not particularly involve me is with Facebook reels. Many people are making videos of their kids thinking they will always be private and occasionally Facebook does an update. The update changed all reels to public and I was able to see reels I could not see before. I do not think there is any way to keep accounts one-hundred percent private. I learned not everyone has the same knowledge when it comes to privacy on the internet.

Privacy settings are things users should be aware of.

The who can find me is always the biggest thing I have watched on Facebook. Having everything set to friends or friends of friends keeps information pretty safe. It requires you to have a connection before they can just reach out to you.
<br/><br/>Limiting who can see my friends list to just my friends also keeps my connections private.

I took an AEA class a week or two ago about social media,
<br/>so now I have a bunch of accounts (Pinterest, Twitter,
<br/>Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook). I think most are set
<br/>somewhat privately, and I just won't be posting much
<br/>on them. I told the people that followed (or who followed
<br/>me) on them, that I will probably just communicate
<br/>with them on text messaging, e-mails, or phone calls.
<br/>I might deactivate some of these accounts, or make them
<br/>very private, later in this summer of 2023.
<br/><br/>The settings to pay attention to seem mostly to say
<br/>"Privacy settings" or something very similar.
