DC Internet Safety

Russell Bush
To be honest, I have chosen not to become a big user of social media. I currently teach in the IT field and have chosen to decrease my exposure by not posting to social media. Identity theft is a huge issue.

I have had a Google account since 1999. I tried to opt out but eventually had to accept the Terms of Service for Google+. As part of some of the PD courses I have taken through the AEA, I have gone back and rechecked my security settings.

Many students don't know that embedded in pictures are the GPS coordinates of when and where the picture was taken. These can be stripped off, but I encourage my students just to be careful about what they post if they choose to use social media

I do have social media tools like Facebook and Instagram, but I rarely post anything.  I can understand how you feel, I'm just not comfortable putting all my information out there even though my privacy and security settings are set.  It's crazy to think how much teens are exposing of themselves out there in the digital world.
