I currently have a Facebook and a Twitter. My posts and pictures can only be seen by friends and under no circumstance am I friends with current students or parents that I didn't know on a personal level prior to their child being a student. While nothing I post or have on my accounts falls under the category of 'unprofessional', I'd rather not take the risk of a friend tagging me in something that a student could see prior to me having a chance to untag myself.
Social media is not something to be scared of or to avoid at all costs. It has amazing capabilities, such as me being able to see nearly daily pictures of my Goddaughter in Serbia. However, if you don't set up your privacy settings or take a certain level of precaution, you do leave yourself open for something negative to happen.
