I regularly use Facebook and Twitter. I never allow a friend who is less than 18 years old for any reason. Additionally, I do not friend parents etc. I’m an administrator and can not allow for my digital footprint to be marred. I act as a model for others to follow knowing how inappropriate it can be and the risk it poses to employee’s successful performance. I have my privacy set to the highest level to gain permission to view my page and prior to posting about me. I’ve learned that the privacy settings are wide open and without education a student can allow anyone to see everything. Frankly, the site I'm most concerned about is Snapchat. I think in the hands of an adult it may be ok. However, I have found, when I was a middle school principal, that it's the most dangerous site available to kids. There is not control to prevent a student from giving false informaiton and posting wildly inappropriate photos.
Finally, I found that 4 of 5 discipline referrals for conflict/fighting started from a social mediat post.
