DC Internet Safety

Ann Stein
I reviewed twitter.  Unless you have your privacy settings set to the protected level, everyone can see your posts, comment on them, and send them on to anyone they would like. I personally really enjoy twitter, and use it as a learning tool, for daily prayers, and for information from a variety of topics: fitness, news, educational trends, etc.  I am very careful to never tweet anything original myself ( not that it is bad to do so, but I just don't feel comfortable with it).  I will like and retweet things that my kids are involved in,  or positive things that I really believe in.  My observation of twitter is that it can be used for wonderful information, but can easily turn negative and mean very quickly.  Everyone has an opinion and makes sure that theirs gets traction.  Truth doesn't have to be vetted.  If you believe it, you can try to convince others of its legitimacy, even if it's not fully true.  I am also constantly reminding my kids to be careful of their tweets and likes. It's very easy for someone to go back through your tweets to use against you..... case in point Carson King.
