DC Internet Safety

John Standerford
I have long resisted using social media because I want to maintain some privacy and don't want students following me. I have recently begun using Instagram after being badgered by family and friends. When I checked my settings, I was shocked to see Public access to my account. After further digging I found that Public is the default setting and you have to physically change it.

I know many students have completely abandoned Facebook for Instagram and others as Facebook is seen as an app for old people.

I have noticed that as well.....it seems like social media sites have defaults that allow anyone to see your activities on their sites.  If you want more privacy and want to restrict what others can see you have to manually go in and change it.   Not too long ago, Facebook had a dialog box at the top of their page to encourage me to review my settings and update anything I might want changed.
