DC Internet Safety

Bethany Mallory
I opted to take a look at my settings in Facebook.  Every once in a while, through my Facebook feed I get a status from someone that has instructions on how to change the privacy settings.  Usually the status has a fear based tone to it and I'm never quite sure what to do with that information.  I do consider what is being said, usually talk with a friend who has some grasp of the situation, and then move on.  Today I opted to make my settings a lot tighter.  I don't do a lot of posting but I want to be careful, especially since I have young children in my home.  I need to have another conversation with my own children about their settings.  I don't know that they use Facebook all that much but Snapchat and Instagram are huge for them.  When I remind students about the importance of privacy settings, I usually get from them that they have it taken care of and nothings gonna happen.  I think its still important to put information out there.  I believe that some of these resources that approach the topics in innovative and media savvy ways can help.
