I am an active user with Twitter. I have had my settings set to private that only my selected followers can see my twitter feed. I at one time had it "open" and I was getting random people following me that I did not know. There were some spotty characters and twitter handles that were inappropriate, so I elected to add the private setting to my account. This had made things much easier for me and my students are not subjected to inappropriate tweets within my account.
