DC Internet Safety

Mindy Fisher
Personally I a not a fan of social media. I feel it is more misused than used appropriately. I have explored twitter, fb, Instagram, and Vine...about the time I master a form of social media a new one roles out. I think that it is super important for adults to learn to use and be aware of what students are doing on-line.
As one of the lead investigators for many cases of cyber bullying and other social issues in our district I use a false account to see what students are putting out there to each other. When I share with parents things there students have posted they always start by denying their child has an account, but then I show them the evidence. Many have no idea, one parent who felt she was doing everything right new her daughter's accounts and passwords- then through my investigation we discovered she had other accounts with other passwords.
We are never going to control everything, but if we teach them safety and etiquette then we can hope they implement.
