I do not use Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram........ I simply have no interest in doing so.... but.... my wife (also a HS teacher) does use most of them. She and I just chatted (face to face, by the way) and (in regards to Facebook) she uses the privacy settings and only accepts "friends" who she knows personally, though our school policy is that students should not be among them. This is complicated if one's own children are HS students. Our 2 kids are a college grad and a college student.
