DC Internet Safety

Christina Mueller
I explored two of the sites: Facebook and Google+. I used to use Google+ a lot more while I was teaching and attending graduate school; however, I haven't looked at the privacy settings in over 6 years. I was surprised by how much information I had public including where I currently lived, all of my previous places of work, my blogs, my birthday, my email, etc. I discovered this when I went to my account, and started looking at the different options going through each one. I realized how easy someone could either use my information or find me as a result of what I had kept public.

I also went to facebook and went through each one of the privacy settings as well as the account settings. One of the mistakes I had made earlier in facebook is not knowing about the tag setting or that I could even choose to review something before another person tags me and wants to post something to my timeline. I think that this is an important privacy setting to learn about and use as some people are not thinking about how a picture or video may affect those who come to your profile page. I think that this would also be helpful for the students in our care. I also changed all of my information to be displayed to only those who are friends of mine.
