I explored my Facebook profile and privacy settings to ensure it was still set to private. I rarely use Facebook and don't share personal things, I just like reading interesting articles on business sites, not things about others personal lives. According to the guidelines only my friends can see my profile. I have had people say they have looked me up to add as a friend and couldn't even find me on there, so it seems to be working I think it's a good idea to use other derivatives of your name for even more privacy which is what it do.
Some of the privacy settings will say only friends can see but if posting or sharing photos sometimes others can see because there are separate privacy settings for that..so it's good to go through all of these.
