I choose not to be a social media user. I did study the settings for Facebook by going to online videos on the subject. If I were to have a Facebook account, I would have the settings so that only friends could see my posts. I would only accept friends that I knew closely. A good point for checking your privacy settings often is that Facebook is always evolving. Another thing that I learned is if you make a setting change it doesn't automatically apply to old posts. That takes an additional step.
My 10 year old granddaughter already uses Snap Chat so I also watched some videos concerning settings to that. I have no doubt that she'll have a Face Book account before too many years go by. I do plan to use what I've learned from this course, not only for the safety of students but also to help protect her. Sometimes advice from a grandparent is better received than advice from parents.
