DC Internet Safety

zarubac
I'm not terribly well versed in social media networking, but still can appreciate other's fondness for participation in it.
My daughter shared and showed me different privacy, security, and alert settings made available on her facebook account.
The privacy settings for whom can "see" what a user posts is very important in my eyes.  Especially if you are a person who tends to consistently share more personal information.  I myself would put most settings to "friends only".
I saw how there are multiple ways for people to search for your account, name being the most prominent followed by email address and also cellular number.  All three listed can be privatized completely to where only you, the user, can friend people and remain hidden from public searches, remain open to friends of friends searching, or just friends.
I also find the use of layered security a good feature.  Making a few trusted friends, or perhaps family member also on facebook, an assistant if you are locked out or "hacked" get back into your account seems worthwhile.
I also was shown how private messages can be sorted into an "other" category that depend on user review to be deemed worthy of inbox material or merely spam.
