A teacher in my district was teaching a book that had the word “nigger” in it frequently. The novel was set in a time when that word was frequently used, despite its negative connotations. The teacher used the word as part of her teaching, and a student recorded her using it. The student shared the video via social media. The teacher and administration attempted to explain to the student that he video was out of context, and by sharing it, he was not helping end the use of the word. The teacher did not receive any disciplinary action that I’m aware of.
The student might have told the teacher that he didn’t like the word being used, instead of being subversive, and attempting to create a negative situation where none existed.
