There used to be a time that you would see a family at a restaurant and to pass the time until the meal arrives, the family would be playing tic-tac-toe on the kid's menu place mat. These days you will see a family engrossed in their phones or tablets. I have observed children as young as 3 using a tablet. It is very important that children learn to use these devices responsibly. It is also important to teach students not only how to use technology but when to use it. For example, not when driving or in the check out line or when crossing the street or even at the aforementioned dinner table. I worked at a school and many times students had to check their phones so they could get their parent's work number or even their home phone number.
