I think students(and adults too) often do not think of the long range consequences of their online actions. They sext pictures that get distributed freely to others. They post items on Facebook or other social media forums that become known to others. Future employers can access their expressed information.
Safety can also a concern. Too much private information about individuals can be acquired very easily. Social security numbers, phone numbers, banking information, and addresses can be targeted.
Teachers can help to show students examples of these unfortunate events to illustrate the pitfalls. They can encourage them to make wise choices, so they can best avoid problems.
