Students need to be taught digital citizenship. The difficulty comes with the speed with which technology changes and the adults understanding of it before teaching students.
I understand that other posts indicate the need for parents to do this, but we just can't trust that to get done, especially when we are giving the students the technology within the classroom. Like with all things, students come to us with a wide range of digital knowledge. We, as educators, can certainly give them the basics of social/digital norms and responsibilities.
We can give students the basics of norms and responsibilities for the digital environments that we place them in, and hopefully touch on the social environments students may get into.
I believe users have the right of free speech without harming others, disagreement with respect, and personal integrity.
