With every freedom comes responsibility, and the responsibilities of good citizenship must be taught over time at each varying age. And just as children are not given full freedoms until they have reach an age of reason, our children should not have full freedom in the digital frontier until they have learned about the responsibilities of their online actions and communications. Schools and parents play a huge role in teaching these norms, as the varying backgrounds of our children mean our students have varying access and experience in the online world. What is allowed in one household may not be allowed in another. And yes, they will be given much freedom as they grow, it is important to help them develop a good conscience as they start to navigate through the world of online socialization, collaboration and development of technology.
