In elementary education it is important for the kids to know they shouldn't put their information out for everyone to see. Most of them don't have their own Facebook or anything yet but some play games online and search the web. They need to know why it is not a good idea. I think it is also important that they only chat or play with people they personally know.
I have heard of teachers and kids that have been sent emails from made up people. The emails were rude and obscene. They were sent from students who really knew how to use technology. Sometimes they used a real students name to try to get them in trouble. Once something is out there it is out there! My students are just learning how to use email so talking about appropriate use is important.
