DC: Norms and responsibilities

Living in the digital world as we all do, it is the responsibility of all educators who use technology in their classroom to give instruction on traversing the digital highway in a socially responsible and respectful manner.  Several social media platforms have been criticized for their allowance of various inappropriate posts.  There are several examples of questionable use of the digital world, from the youtube sensations who posted about suicide to various government officials who use twitter and facebook to further their cause, beliefs or thoughts.  As an educator I think it is important for to remind, reteach, reinvent what the expectations, norms and responsibilities of anyone using the internet.  I have seen many posts that expressed the belief that students need a digital citizen class to be able to use the internet. I also believe that is would be valuable.  The class needs to start at home and progress as they go through their educational life.  As adults, we work on our own responsible use of the digital highway and rein ourselves in when it comes to our use of the internet.
