DC Norms and responsibilitites

Carrie
I love the idea of social media and the fact that you may communicate with friends, family and others in a fast and efficient way.  However, how kids use social media in their everyday lives can be scary.  I believe it does provide a faster and easier way to communicate for students, but the freedom of saying anything they want is disturbing.  I don't think that kids really think about what they post until it is posted and for everyone to see.  That is the scary part of it.  They don't realize the immensity or how the power of words can be taken in as a different context of what they might have really wanted to say. We have all read an e-mail from a person and thought that they might have sounded angry or were not happy when they wrote it, but really that person might not have recognized that they sounded that way.  I do feel it is a topic that needs to be discussed in schools and with parents at home.  This should be an interesting course.
