I looked at my settings in my own Twitter account and realized I was not as secure as I thought. As I went through each tab under "Settings and Privacy", I found some things which needed to be turned on and/or off. For instance, I did not know I could select the option, "Protect your Tweets" to have my tweets read only by those who follow me. Amazingly enough, it has cut down on Twitter chatter and responses from people I do not know. The more aware you are about each social media platform, the less vulnerable you will be.
