I looked at the privacy settings on Facebook since that is the social media site I use most prevalently. I believe it would be a really good idea for EVERYONE to go through the privacy settings on their Facebook site and make sure it is set to the privacy settings they want. I found it all very interesting and easy to use.
It can be time consuming, but worth it in the end to keep your information out of the hands of strangers or people intending to use it in negative ways. My site has the most strict privacy settings. I don't want anyone using where I work, where I went to high school or college, my birthdate or any other seemingly harmless information about me to gain access to other information or steal my identity. I also don't want my students to be able to view my site and determine where I live or hang out, etc. I feel like my life outside of school is intended to be separate from theirs and while I share some personal information with them to make connections and build relationships, I never want to cross lines or have question about whether or not I have crossed any personal or professional boundaries.
