Digital Citizenship R & R

At our district, I certainly believe there is a definite need to teach students digital citizenship.  More often than not, in my classroom, I witness our 1:1 initiative abused.  Don't get me wrong, we do have many students that use the technology effectively and properly, but there is a portion of the student body who don't understand or are aware of the consequences when the technology is abused.  However, I don't believe restriction of technology is the solution.  I believe students need to be taught very early on in their educational careers about digital citizenship, appropriate uses, and how to use it effectively and productively.  As students progress farther in their educational careers, we the teachers need to continue to model digital citizenship in effort to reinforce what the students were taught early on.

I agree with you completely.  Rather than punishing all students for abusing technology, we should teach students to do what is right and raise our expectations.  We put limits on the students rather than teach students to do what's right.  Unfortunately, this is not limited to technology.
