Digital Citizenship

jeannette thompson
Digitial Citizenship is pretty much the same as being a good citizen in life.  I think there are a few precautions that should be done in putting things on the internet.

People have the rights of speaking out what their beliefs and opinions are.  At times those beliefs get in the way of the citizenship that is needed online.  When putting beliefs up there, it also needs to be noted that others have beliefs and have the right to their beliefs as well.  Being a good digital citizen honoring the beliefs and opinions of others is mandatory!

First putting your first and last name online is somewhat dangerous with all of the people out there that can see your personal profiles.  Never put an address online, that is really dangerous.

I believe it is important to teach our students about the rights, uses and dangers of the using the ditigal mediums out there.  We need to monitor what they are doing, remembering that they are still needing guidance.  There is a lot of instances of improper use of the internet by children and adults.  There are a lot of instances of cyber-bullying, which is not being responsible nor being a good citizen online.

Citizenship is about the golden rule.  Do unto others as you would like others to do unto you!
