Digital Etiquitte

Jeannette.thompson
It is really important to use digital etiquette when corresponding via the internet.  There is often misunderstanding of what is said because there is not the non-verbals to help in interpreting the comment.

When we speak face to face, we use many of the gestures, facial expressions, and other non-verbals to aide in the understanding of what is being said.  When you are trying to communicate just with words, we need to be careful how things are worded in order to not get the wrong point across.  We need to make sure we are being careful to keep other people's feelings in mind as well.

An example of this, I was corresponding with a friend from high school.  We were talking about old times, but at the time I accidentally hit the caps lock and it appeared that I was yelling at her about something and she was offended.

Also when arguments arise between people it is way too easy to log onto an email or Facebook and send them a personal message before thinking through things completely.  Some people need to stop and think about the situation a lot longer before sitting down at the computer.
