Digital Media - Inappropriate Usage

Kait Burke
Unfortunately, students think they are invincible, and no matter how many times I try to reiterate that they aren't, some still take risks.

One of my students sent an inappropriate video to another student this past year. The recipient unfortunately made the choice to send back an inappropriate picture. The picture was then sent on to others and ended up being posted on the internet.

Both instances should have had students thinking about where their media could end up before sharing it. This is why I am cautious on social media as to what I share. I try not to post pictures of nights out with friends because although they are fun, I do not want people (possibly parents, depending on who I am friends with on social media sites) seeing unprofessional pictures.

It is not always easy to remember to not post when we are having fun or took a great picture with friends.  But the lasting effects or the questions about "how was your weekend?" from parents or students is enough to make me think twice before posting or having others post.
