You see a lot of inappropriate use of digital media on the social networking sites. On Facebook I always see people bringing up private issues and posting them for the whole world to see. I have even seen family disagreements about a family member being in prison, posted to Facebook for everyone to read. Also, I sometimes see people posting pictures of themselves doing something illegal. My husband is a police officer and he has solved cases reading and seeing things that have been shared on social media. I usually feel amazed when I see this type of behavior going on. If I were a part of these families that discussed such private things in front of everyone I would not be happy. I am not sure why people have decided that these sites are an appropriate way to communicate ALL things, but I like what another class member said. They said that if it is something that you wouldn't feel comfortable sharing with someone face to face, you shouldn't be comfortable posting it to a social media site. I feel like that is what should be done differently in a lot of these cases. Things need to be brought up and discussed face to face. I feel like in these situations it would have helped to address the issue at hand instead of throwing a whole bunch of new issues into the mix.
