Digital citizenship Norms

hchristensen@cbcsd.org
Herbert P Christensen   One great trait of us Americans is that we are trailblazers and want things now.  It has worked even in the old west as talked about in our opening session that talked about the lead pioneers and encountering the unknown.  The railroad tracks exhibited show only a short length of railbed going off into the dark.  It reminds of a poem by Gamman where a pioneer is on a truck that suddenly stops.  It is silent.  It is blackout dark.  He cannot see where the road they were driving on leads or even if there is a road ahead.  The same with the train track.  It cannot be seen if the track simply leads to an abyss.  Having been a railroader, such tracks exist.  Old unuseable equipment is pushed over the abyss with the teaching they are being used to fill a void.  But as a falling leaf, none come back to report of where they end up.  In Gammon, the pioneer ends up in a relocation camp.

If we look at our leaders and now our "influencers", where are we headed?  Our trait of forging ahead without thinking of another one of the nine areas to discuss, following the law.

Are we raising a generation or two of "Young Rascals" who are being told what to do but can easily see the previous generation is not living the very norms we teach those multitudes that follow?

Is is common that "Life Skills" become a part of any course work taught in todays educational system?

Our privacy obligations are far behind and much looser than many other nations.  Do we even follow them or are they subject to an "opinion" from the norm breakers in power?

We do need to talk to those that follow.  Do we really know the road ahead or if there is even one?
