Emily Vaughan- DC Intro: Inappropriate Use Digital Media

I see adults act this way every day online. They sit behind the keyboard and have little remorse for the things they say and do online. They often times speak online differently than they would in real life or in person, and I think that children see that as okay to copy because they're seeing adults behave that way. I see a lot of these behaviors show up around conversations in politics online. Keyboard warriors feel safe and almost hidden when making rude, negative, and sometimes disgusting comments to or about others online. It amazes me some of the things that people feel comfortable saying online to each other! I'm starting to see similar behaviors happening with my students. My incoming class of 6th graders can be very rude, often for no reason, to each other. They have very little empathy and a class and react quickly, and without fear of consequence.
