Finally had a date that didn't feel like a job interview

Finally had a date that didn't feel like a job interview

I was genuinely about two seconds away from deleting every single dating app on my phone last month. I’m just so tired of the "hey how was your day" loop that leads absolutely nowhere, it’s like a second job but with zero pay and way more ghosting. But then I matched with Sara. Honestly, the weirdest thing is that we actually matched because of shared interests—we both have this weirdly specific obsession with 90s cult horror movies and somehow the site actually picked up on that. Usually, these algorithms feel like they're just throwing random people at you, but this actually felt targeted in a good way.

Our first date was last Thursday and I’m still kind of buzzing about it tbh. I was shaking like a leaf before I walked into the bar, which is so embarrassing for a guy in his late 20s. I felt like a teenager again. I was even looking through stuff like how to ask a girl to prom just to remember how to actually be charming and "ask" someone out properly without sounding like a total dork. It’s funny how those old-school tips about just being sincere and making a bit of an effort still apply even when you're an adult. Like, that "promposal" energy but for a nice dinner date.

We ended up talking for like four hours. It wasn't that standard "so what do you do for work" interview vibe. We were arguing about which Scream movie is the best and laughing about how bad our high school photos were. The site actually did its job because we didn't have to struggle to find things to talk about. When I got home, she actually texted me first to say she had a great time, which is basically the ultimate green flag imo. It’s rare to find someone who actually clicks, and I'm feeling weirdly hopeful for once. If you’re feeling burnt out by the whole scene, maybe just give it one more shot with someone who actually likes the same weird stuff you do. It makes a huge difference when you actually have a "thing" in common from the jump. Feeling pretty good about where this is going btw.
